What is BTG?

Bridging the Gap: From Education to Employment (BTG) is an innovative, community-based labour force development model that connects prospective employers with individuals who have barriers to employment. It provides customized workplace and essential skills training. To accomplish this, partnerships are formed with the private sector, labour groups, educational providers, non-government agencies and government. The model is comprehensive, detailed and capable of being transferred to different communities.

Community Learning Network (CLN) Teams ensure the community is involved at the beginning of the BTG process.  The model is comprehensive, detailed and can be utilized in different regions, for varied business types and for a wide range of potential workers.

At the business level, businesses are chosen based on criteria.  BTG assists businesses that are facing challenges in employing skilled and qualified workers.  BTG works with businesses that are expanding their operations or with new start-ups.

At the individual level, participants are chosen based on participation in income support programs from the two levels of government.  However, individual participants may be selected from the wider labour force as community and business requirements dictate and government programs permit.

The BTG Model is a proven approach supported by research, quantitative and qualitative evaluations, a cost/benefit analysis and government policy directives.

The Model is comprehensive, detailed and capable of being transferred to different communities. The BTG Model has expanded to include 9 economic zones and 22 private business firms in NL.
